How much would you need to be paid if you were only allowed to eat any types of fruit for one year?
For me, I would need to be paid USD 250,000.
When I was a kid, I imagined being stuck on an island with only fruits available to eat. So I asked my dad if it were possible to survive on a fruit only diet. He said it was possible but did not know why.
After doing a bit of Googling, I found out that there was actually a name for this type of people call “Fruitarians”. They do this because eating fruits do not hurt the any plant or animals. Ashton Kutcher and Steve Jobs have made the news in the past for following a fruit only diet.
The main problem with a fruitarian diet is low protein and no fat. Without the protein we need every day, and if other nutrients are not in balance, the body’s homeostasis becomes disturbed. Muscle wasting can occur and other body systems may “malfunction”.
The lack of fat in the diet leads to low levels of satiety. And people on the fruit diet may notice a dullness to the hair, skin, and nails.
Eating only carbohydrates made of mostly fructose and fibre can run a toll on the blood glucose levels. The body does a great job of processing carbohydrates, but if you eat sweet fruits all day long, the pancreas has to work even harder.
If I were to eat fruits only for one year, I would make sure I eat a lot of avocados, as avocados are considered fruits that are also excellent healthy fat sources and not that sweet. So my daily meals would consists of the follow:
1 x Banana,
4 x Strawberries
1 x Apple
1 x Avocado
1 x Coconut Juice
2 x spoons of Blue Berries
5 x Cherries
3 x Avocado
1 x Tomato
0.25 x Rockmelon
2 x Figs
Given the various health issues associated with eating fruits only for one year and also having to give up other delicious foods, I would need to be paid 250,000 USD for which:
- 100k USD probably will go towards my medical bill
- The rest of the 150k means I won’t have to work for 3 or 4 years and I can splurge on steak and wine after my one year
